CareNow LA provides free medical, dental and vision services to the uninsured, underinsured and underserved in our community. We’ll also provide immunizations and screenings including mammograms and Pap smears. Extensive patient education and counseling will promote wellness, prevention and self-care among our most vulnerable population.

CareNow LA will provide follow-up care for those who need further medical attention beyond the event.. Local clinics and healthcare centers have volunteered to provide medical homes for these patients and will have representatives on site to accept referrals. This is a community wide effort – L.A. helping its own. Volunteer for as little as one half day, and be a part of this history making event! In the past two years, three massive free clinics brought desperately needed care to uninsured and underinsured individuals and families in Southern California. The clinics were front page, network news around the world. Together, these events served 15,330 patients, providing free care valued at more than $7.1 million.

The first two events, in 2009 and 2010, were produced in collaboration with key providers including Remote Area Medical, the Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services and many local organizations, along with hundreds of volunteer healthcare professionals. The third event, Maria Shriver’s Modern House Call, was held in October of 2010, in collaboration with the Tzu Chi Medical Foundation and many local providers and volunteers.

The organizers and healthcare professionals who produced these events formed CareNow, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, to continue bringing quality, sustainable healthcare to those without access to the medical, dental and vision care they desperately need. CareNow combines the efforts of hundreds of volunteer doctors, dentists, optometrists, nurses and other professionals in large urban clinics that deliver free care to thousands over the course of four or five days. These events provide not only quality care on site, but also follow-up care post-event for those who need it.

CareNow has developed the systems and resources to effectively transform large urban venues such as sports arenas and convention centers into fully staffed and equipped working clinics – everything from HIPAA compliant electronic medical records to pharmacies and labs. CareNow clinics may have as many as 100 dental chairs, 40 medical exam rooms, and 20 vision exam lanes on site, along with medical screenings and immunizations, and a large educational component focused on prevention and self-care. Local healthcare resources are recruited for each event to provide medical homes for those who need follow-up.

CareNow brings together the specialized skills and talents of doctors, dentists, healthcare professionals and event organizers – a combination of resources necessary to plan, produce and manage large scale urban free clinics. CareNow clinics are primarily local community efforts, and our team works closely with local providers, organizations and government agencies to produce events that meet community needs.
